Media Center Vision
TNHS Library Media Center Checkout Policies and Procedures
Fiction and nonfiction materials are checked out for a period of four weeks. Reference materials (REF) may be checked out for two school days. ACT, College, and Career Books (CCR) may be checked out for five school days. Bookmarks are marked with the due date at the time of check out. It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of the due date and return or renew the material/s. Cameras may be checked out overnight upon signing an agreement taking responsibility for the camera if it is lost, stolen, or damaged.
Renewal
Materials may be renewed three times (for a total of two months of check-out). Materials must be brought into the media center in order to be renewed.
Overdue/Lost Books
Thomas Nelson High Media Center does NOT charge fines for overdue books. However, students are expected to pay for or replace lost books.
The Thomas Nelson High School Media Specialist attempts to work with the student to get overdue books back within a reasonable time. The media specialist may talk directly with the student and their English teacher, if applicable, call the student’s home and send letters. Once a student pays for the lost book, a refund will be given IF it is later found and returned in the same condition in which it was checked out.
Students with overdue books may have to meet with Ms. Case to call parents to discuss opportunities for returning or replacing the book(s).
Restrictions
Students who have overdue books will be restricted from additional checkouts. Books that are overdue by more than 8 weeks need to be returned, replaced, or paid for as they will be considered lost. Students who have lost a book will be restricted from additional checkouts for the remainder of the school year or until there has been restitution equivalent to the cost of the book. Students who have lost books will not be allowed to checkout until books are returned, replaced, paid in full, or paid in other forms of restitution, such as, staying after school to work in the media center.
SPECIAL AREAS
The Professional Resource materials (PRO or PRO REF) are for teacher checkout only.
See http://tnhs.nelson.kyschools.us/media-center/ for other policies and procedures.
